Small Business Tech Support: How Much Help Do You Need?
If you're running your own business, there are probably plenty of things you can do yourself. But that doesn't mean you always want to. Small business tech support can be useful when you just need someone to answer a question, sort out an annoying problem or take something off your hands.
Sometimes you just need someone to answer a question. Sometimes you've got one annoying problem that you can't quite work out. Other times, you've got a whole list of jobs that you'd rather hand over to someone who knows what they're doing.
And occasionally, the problem isn't really a tech problem at all. Your website has become outdated, you're not happy with it anymore, or it simply doesn't reflect your business as it is today.
That's why I've been simplifying the ways you can work with me. Rather than having one ongoing support package that may or may not suit what you need, I've created a few different options depending on the type of help you're looking for.
Finding the Right Small Business Tech Support
Got a question?
If you've got something you're stuck with but aren't sure whether you actually need to pay someone to help, my free Tech Q&A is a good place to start.
You can send me your question and I'll answer it as part of my weekly Q&A. It might be something about Squarespace, Stripe, email marketing, online bookings or one of the many other systems that small businesses end up using.
The idea is simply to give you a bit of direction. You may find that it's something you can sort out yourself with a little guidance, which is great. And if it's something that needs more hands-on help, you can then decide whether one of my paid options is more appropriate.

Got one problem?
That's where the Support Ticket comes in.
This is for a small, defined issue that needs a bit of investigation or a quick fix. Perhaps something isn't working properly, you're not sure why, or you've tried to sort it yourself and got stuck.
It's not intended for a long list of jobs, but it's useful when you have one particular thing that's been holding you up and you'd rather have someone look at it for you.

Got a list?
If you've accumulated a few website edits or tech jobs, a Power Hour is probably a better fit.
We can use the hour to work through your list and get as much done as possible. That might include making website changes, troubleshooting something that's been annoying you, or helping you work out how to use a particular system.
It's a straightforward way of getting some dedicated help without needing to book a larger block of time.

Got something bigger?
Some jobs are simply too involved for an hour. If you’ve got something that needs a bit more attention, you can book a half day.
This could be a more substantial website update, restructuring some pages, setting up a system or tackling a project that needs a decent amount of focused time.
The important thing is that you’re booking the time you need, rather than trying to squeeze a particular list of deliverables into a package.

Or perhaps it’s time for a new website?
Sometimes the problem isn't a small website update or a bit of tech that needs fixing. Your website itself has reached the point where you're spending more time trying to make it work than it is worth.
Maybe it's looking dated, the structure no longer makes sense, or your business has changed and your website hasn't kept up. In that situation, another Power Hour probably isn't the answer. You need to step back and rethink the website as a whole.
That's where my Squarespace Website In A Day comes in.
This is my main website design service for small businesses that need a professional, straightforward website without a long, drawn-out project. We do the preparation beforehand, then I spend a dedicated day designing and building your new Squarespace website.
It's a bigger investment than my support options, but it's also a completely different type of service. Instead of fixing individual problems, we're creating a website that properly represents your business and gives you a solid foundation to work from.
If you're looking at your current website and thinking "I really need to sort this out properly", this is probably where you need to be.
So which one is right for you?
The easiest way is to start with the smallest option that sounds like it will solve your problem, and work from there.
If you've got a question, start with the free Tech Q&A.
If you've got one small problem, a Support Ticket may be enough.
If you've got a list of jobs, book a Power Hour. If it's something more involved, a half day gives us more time.
And if the real issue is that your website needs a complete rethink, then let's talk about your Squarespace Website In A Day.
You don't need to work out exactly what you need before getting in touch, either. Tell me what's going on and I'll help you work out the most sensible option.
Why I've changed the way I offer support
I've offered monthly support in the past, but I've decided that it isn't the best way for me to help every client.
Businesses don't all need the same amount of support, and what you need can change from month to month. I'd rather offer a few clear ways to work with me so that you can get help when you actually need it, without committing to something that doesn't suit you.
So whether you've got a quick question, a frustrating little problem, a list of jobs or a website that's due a complete overhaul, there's now a straightforward way to get the help you need.
