7 Ways to Be More Tech Savvy (Even If You’re Winging It)
Ever feel like you’re just winging it? In business? In life? In being an adult?
Same. Every single day. But here’s the secret: so is everyone else—especially when it comes to tech.
I’ve always been pretty techy. I worked for years at a software company, I’ve got a degree in Computing and IT, and I’ve even studied Electronic Engineering (although that mostly resulted in a few unfortunate explosions... apparently “just winging it” and live wires don’t mix 😅).
And yet, even with all that, most days I still feel like I’m winging it. I just have the confidence to click things and figure it out. That’s what being tech savvy really is—it’s not about knowing everything, it’s about being willing to try.
So here are 7 ways you can build that confidence too—no stress, no jargon, and no need to be a perfectionist.
1. Confidence to Click
There’s no science to it: I click things and see what happens. And 9 times out of 10, that’s how I figure it out. What’s the worst that could happen? (OK, maybe don’t answer that if you’re in engineering… but in everyday tech? You’ll be fine.)
2. Embrace “Switch It Off and On Again”
My husband laughs when I say this, but it’s genuinely the best fix for most tech issues. And yes—I consider it my superpower 🦸🏼♀️. Don’t underestimate the classics.
3. Get Comfortable with the Tools You Use Most
Don’t try to learn every platform under the sun. Start by getting really confident with the things you use daily—your email marketing platform, website builder, or calendar. Confidence builds with familiarity.
4. Google Is Your Best Friend (and so is ChatGPT)
Google has been around most of my adult life, and I’m not sure how I’d wing it without it! I use it all the time. You can find nearly every answer online—if you know what to search and how to sift the good from the not-so-good.
And now we have ChatGPT, which is basically like having a very clever assistant on standby 24/7. Need help writing an email, summarising a long article, or figuring out how to do something techy step-by-step? Ask away. Just like with Google, the key is knowing what to ask—and what to do with the answers.
5. Know When You’re Out of Your Depth
There’s a reason clients come to me even though Google exists. The internet is a black hole of useful and useless information. The trick is knowing what to look for—and what to do with it once you’ve found it. That’s where I come in.
6. Tidy Your Tech
A cluttered desktop or messy file system makes everything feel harder. Keep your digital space organised and it’ll instantly feel more manageable. Small changes like using folders, cleaning your inbox, and naming your files properly go a long way.

7. Use Tools That Help You Help Yourself
Things like password managers, calendar integrations, and automation tools are your friends. They don’t just make life easier—they give you back brain space and time. Smart tech = less stress.
So let me tell you: winging it is totally OK. In fact, it’s kind of essential if you want to learn and grow. But if clicking around makes you nervous—or if you’re just too busy—then let me wing it for you.
Tech doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming. You don’t need to know all the things. You just need to know who to ask (🙋🏼♀️).
