Squarespace Pricing UK: What Does Squarespace Cost?

If you're looking for Squarespace pricing UK, one of the first questions you're probably asking is: how much is this actually going to cost me?

The price you see advertised for Squarespace is only part of the picture. Depending on what you need your website to do, you might also need a domain, professional email, online booking, email marketing or payment processing.

And if you're selling products, you'll also need to consider transaction fees.

The good news is that you probably don't need all of those things.

So rather than giving you a complicated pricing table full of features you may never use, here's a straightforward look at Squarespace pricing in the UK, what the different plans are for, and what you might actually need to budget for.

Prices and features can change, so always check the current Squarespace pricing before purchasing.

Squarespace Pricing UK: How Much Does Squarespace Cost?

Squarespace currently has four main website plans:

  • Basic

  • Core

  • Plus

  • Advanced

You can choose to pay monthly or annually, with annual billing giving you a lower overall cost. The important thing to understand is that you don't necessarily need the most expensive plan. The right plan depends on what you want your website to do.

Which Squarespace plan do you need?

Basic

Basic is Squarespace's entry-level plan and is perfectly capable of running a professional business website.

If you need a website with pages such as Home, About, Services and Contact, along with a blog, portfolio or other standard website content, Basic may be all you need.

And yes, you can sell products on the Basic plan too.

The main thing to be aware of if you're selling is that Basic has a higher Squarespace transaction fee than the higher-tier plans. So don't rule out Basic simply because you plan to sell something. For a service-based business, or a business that only sells occasionally, Basic could still be the most cost-effective option.

Core

Core gives you more features and flexibility than Basic, including additional tools for customisation, integrations and running a more involved business website.

It's worth considering if you need features that aren't included with Basic. But don't feel that you have to choose Core simply because you're running a business. Basic is a proper business website plan.

The best option is the one that gives you what you need without paying for features you'll never use.

Plus

Plus is aimed more towards businesses that are selling regularly.

One of the main reasons you might move from Basic or Core to Plus is the lower transaction fees. If you're processing enough sales, those lower fees can offset the higher monthly subscription. But if you're only selling occasionally, paying more for Plus may not save you money overall.

Advanced

Advanced is Squarespace's top-tier plan and is aimed at businesses with more substantial ecommerce requirements.

Again, the lower transaction fees can be an important consideration if you're processing significant sales. For most small service-based businesses, you probably won't need Advanced.

Which Squarespace plan is best for selling products?

This is where things get a little more interesting.

You can sell products on Basic, Core, Plus or Advanced.

The difference is the transaction fees and the other features available on each plan.

For physical products, the Basic plan has a higher Squarespace commerce transaction fee, while the higher-tier plans have lower or no Squarespace commerce transaction fees, depending on the plan. You'll also need to pay payment processing fees when customers pay you.

So the cheapest monthly subscription isn't necessarily the cheapest option once you're making regular sales. If you're only making a small number of sales each month, staying on Basic could make perfect sense. If you're making much more in sales, upgrading to a higher plan could save you money because of the lower transaction fees.

It's worth doing the maths rather than guessing.

Not sure which Squarespace plan is best for your shop?

I've created a simple Squarespace Pricing Calculator that works out which plan could give you the best value based on how much you're selling.

[Use the Squarespace Pricing Calculator →] ***COMING SOON***

It takes the different plan costs and transaction fees into account, so you can see which option is likely to work out best for your business.

The calculator is intended as a guide. Always check the latest Squarespace pricing and fees before making your decision.

What else might you need to pay for?

Your Squarespace subscription is your main website cost, but there are a few extras you might want.

Your domain name

Your domain is your website address, such as yourbusiness.co.uk.

Your domain, website hosting and email are actually three separate things, although Squarespace can bring some of them together. With Squarespace, your website hosting is included in your website subscription, so you don't need to buy separate web hosting. You can register a domain through Squarespace or connect one you've already bought elsewhere.

If you're buying a new Squarespace website on an annual plan, you're generally eligible for a free custom domain for the first year. After that, you'll pay the renewal cost for your domain.

And don't worry if you've already bought your domain somewhere else. You don't have to move it to Squarespace just because your website is built there. You can usually connect an existing domain instead.

Confused about the difference between your website hosting, domain and email?

I've explained it all in What's the Difference Between Web Hosting, Email Hosting and Domain Hosting?.

Professional email

Your website and your email are separate things. If you want an address such as hello@yourbusiness.co.uk, you'll need an email service.

Squarespace offers Google Workspace, which gives you professional email along with Google's other business tools.

If you're on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, Squarespace currently offers Google Workspace Business Starter free for the first year when you purchase an eligible new subscription through Squarespace. After that first year, you'll pay the normal Google Workspace subscription price. You can also buy Google Workspace separately if you'd rather manage it directly through Google.

Online booking

If you want clients to book appointments directly through your website, you might want Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity Scheduling). This is particularly useful for businesses such as therapists, coaches, consultants, beauty businesses and other appointment-based businesses.

It's a separate subscription from your Squarespace website plan. But again, you don't need it just because you have a Squarespace website. If you don't need online self-booking, you can simply use your existing enquiry or contact process instead.

Email marketing

Squarespace also offers its own email marketing service, Squarespace Email Campaigns.

This is another optional extra.

If you want to send newsletters or automated email sequences, you'll need an email marketing platform. That could be Squarespace Email Campaigns or another service such as MailerLite. You don't have to use Squarespace's own email marketing tool just because your website is built on Squarespace.

What about payment processing?

If you're selling products, services or digital products through your website, you'll also need to think about payment processing. This is separate from your Squarespace subscription.

For example, with Squarespace Payments, you'll pay a percentage plus a fixed fee when a customer makes a payment. The exact rate depends on your plan and the type of card or payment method being used.

You may also have Squarespace transaction fees depending on what you're selling and which plan you're on. So when you're working out the cost of selling through Squarespace, don't just look at the monthly subscription. Look at the total cost of taking payments too. This is particularly important if you're deciding whether upgrading to a more expensive plan will actually save you money.

What does a Squarespace website actually cost?

This is probably the question you're really interested in.

And the answer is:

It depends on what you're using it for.

A simple business website

If you need a straightforward website with your key information, services and contact details, your main ongoing cost could simply be your Squarespace subscription and domain.

You don't need to buy every Squarespace add-on.

A service-based business

If you're a coach, consultant, therapist, photographer or other service-based business, you might need a website, domain and professional email.

If you also want clients to book appointments online, you could add Squarespace Scheduling.

That's still a relatively simple setup, but it gives you a much more useful system for running your business.

An online shop

If you're selling physical products, you'll need to think about your Squarespace plan, transaction fees and payment processing.

The right plan will depend on how much you're selling.

That's where the Squarespace Pricing Calculator can help you work out whether sticking with Basic or moving to a higher plan could give you better value.

A business selling digital products or memberships

Digital products and memberships have their own transaction fees, so the plan you choose can make a bigger difference.

If you're selling a significant amount of digital content, it's worth comparing the total costs rather than simply choosing the cheapest monthly subscription.

Do you have to pay annually?

No.

Squarespace offers both monthly and annual billing.

Annual billing gives you a lower average monthly cost and, for eligible new sites, a free custom domain for the first year.

If you're confident you're going to use Squarespace for the foreseeable future, annual billing will usually make more financial sense. But if you're just getting started and cash flow is more important than saving money over the year, paying monthly can give you more flexibility.

There's no point saving money over the year if paying the annual subscription upfront puts unnecessary pressure on your business.

What about VAT?

If you're in the UK, remember that VAT can affect the final amount you pay.

The advertised Squarespace prices may not be the exact amount that leaves your bank account once VAT is taken into account. If you're VAT registered, you may be able to reclaim the VAT in the normal way, depending on your circumstances.

It's worth checking the final price before you commit rather than assuming the headline monthly price is exactly what you'll pay.

How much does a professionally designed Squarespace website cost?

There's another cost that isn't included in any Squarespace pricing guide: the cost of getting someone to build the website for you.

Squarespace gives you the platform, hosting and tools to build your website, including AI-powered tools to help you get started. But there's still a difference between having a website and having a website that's properly designed for your business.

You can absolutely build a Squarespace website yourself if you're happy to spend the time learning the platform, creating the content, making the design decisions and setting everything up.

Or you can pay a professional to do some or all of that work for you.

The cost of professional website design varies hugely depending on what's involved.

A DIY Squarespace website might cost you little more than the Squarespace subscription.

A professionally designed website could cost hundreds or thousands of pounds on top of your Squarespace subscription.

And that's not necessarily because one designer is "more expensive" than another. You're paying for their experience, design skills, strategy, technical knowledge, content guidance, setup and the amount of work involved.

The Squarespace subscription is simply the platform your website lives on.

The good thing about starting with Squarespace

One of the things I really like about Squarespace is that you don't have to get everything right from the beginning. You can get a fully functional website up and running on the Basic plan and, if you're eligible, get a free domain for the first year. Then, as your business grows and your needs change, you can add the things you actually need.

Need more features? Upgrade your Squarespace plan.

Want clients to book online? Add Acuity.

Ready to start email marketing? Add Squarespace Email Campaigns or connect another email marketing platform.

Starting to sell more products? You can look at whether moving to a higher Squarespace plan will save you money in transaction fees.

And if you upgrade your Squarespace subscription part way through your billing period, Squarespace prorates the change, so you receive credit for the unused portion of your existing subscription.

You don't have to pay for everything on day one just in case you might need it later.

Start with what you need now and build from there.

A little Squarespace saving if you work with me

There's another potential saving if you work with me on your Squarespace website.

I'm a Squarespace Circle member, which means I can offer my clients 20% off their Squarespace subscriptions.

That includes:

  • Your Squarespace website subscription

  • Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity)

  • Squarespace Email Campaigns

So if you're using more than just the website, that discount can add up over the course of the year.

I'll also help you work out which Squarespace plan and additional services you actually need, so you're not paying for features or subscriptions that aren't useful to your business.

So, is Squarespace expensive?

I don't think Squarespace is particularly expensive when you consider what you're getting.

It's an all-in-one platform that takes care of your website hosting, security, software updates and a lot of the technical infrastructure behind your website.

That simplicity is one of the reasons I recommend it to many small business owners. But you don't need to buy the most expensive plan just because it's there.

The best Squarespace plan is the one that gives you the features you actually need — and no more.

And if you're selling products, it's worth doing the maths before you choose. The cheapest monthly subscription isn't necessarily the cheapest option once transaction fees are taken into account.

Need help with your Squarespace website?

If the thought of choosing a plan, setting everything up and making all the different pieces work together sounds like a faff, that's where I can help.

I design fuss-free, minimalist Squarespace websites for small business owners who'd rather leave the tech to someone else.

Whether you need a brand-new website, a refresh of an existing site or help getting all the technical bits working properly, I can take care of the fiddly stuff and make it simple.
