What I Don’t Do as a Web Designer (and Why That Matters)

Minimalist workspace flatlay with a keyboard, notebook, pen, coffee and plant on a clean white surface.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your website, frustrated by tech, or unsure who to trust with your online presence, this is for you. It’s also for those who want simplicity, clarity, and a website that actually works for their business — not the other way around.

Not every web designer works the same way — and that’s a good thing.

As a small business owner, choosing the right support isn’t just about style or price. It’s about how someone works, how decisions are made, and whether the process will make your life easier — or add more stress.

Over the years, I’ve learned that being clear about what I don’t do is just as important as what I do. It saves confusion, keeps projects calm, and helps clients feel confident from start to finish.

If your current website feels harder to manage than your business, or if tech often feels overwhelming, this might help you see why simplicity matters.

I don’t build overly complicated websites

Your website shouldn’t feel like a puzzle you’re scared to touch. If updating a sentence or adding a new section requires help every time, the setup isn’t serving you.

I design websites that are simple behind the scenes: clear layouts, sensible page structures, and tools that are easy to use day-to-day.

Why it matters to you: This means less stress, fewer mistakes, and more confidence managing your own site.

I don’t believe more pages equals better results

A bigger website doesn’t automatically mean better results. In reality, most visitors are looking for clarity — not a library of content.

A smaller, well-structured site helps people understand what you do, who it’s for, and what to do next — without getting lost or overwhelmed.

Why it matters to you: Fewer pages mean clearer messaging, faster decision-making, and a stronger impression for potential clients.

I don’t do drawn-out, months-long projects

Long projects can sound reassuring, but they often create decision fatigue and unnecessary stress. Momentum gets lost, priorities shift, and what should be simple feels heavy.

I prefer focused, efficient projects where there’s a clear plan, dedicated time, and a defined end point.

Why it matters to you: You get results faster, know exactly what to expect, and can move on with confidence — instead of having a website hanging over you for months.

I don’t add tech just because it’s shiny

New tools constantly appear, promising to save time or transform your business. But more platforms don’t always mean more ease — often they just add more complexity.

I focus on choosing a small number of tools that work well together and actually support how you run your business.

Why it matters to you: Less logging in, less managing, and more space to focus on what you do best.

I don’t work without clarity

Clarity isn’t about having everything perfect — it’s about knowing what matters most. Without it, websites become cluttered, systems feel confusing, and decisions drag on.

I make clarity the first step: understanding your goals, priorities, and constraints before anything else.

Why it matters to you: With clear foundations, the rest of your website and systems become far simpler, faster, and more effective.

At the end of the day, my role isn’t to do everything or build the most complex setup possible.

It’s to design simple, beautiful Squarespace websites and streamlined digital systems that make your business feel lighter, calmer, and easier to run.

If you’re looking for a fuss-free approach, a clear process, and results without the stress, this way of working may be exactly what you need.
